Ambimap is used for the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery of various etiologies is offered in tablet form. In Ayurveda, ATISAR (diarrhoea) and PRAVAHIKA (commonly termed dysentery) are considered interrelated conditions. Atisar is a disease wherein watery stools are passed; the Api, or “Jal Dhatu,” diminishes the JATHARAGNI” (digestive fire) and gets activated by vitiated doshas and passes out as watery stools. Pravahika is a related condition in which stools pass in a lesser amount along with mucus (sometimes with blood also), but with increased frequency. Imbalanced Vata and Pitta doshas are the major causative factors. Grahni is a letter stage of Atisar and Pravahika and may develop as an independent disease by itself. Several internal “KRIMIS” (intestinal parasites or worms) often complicate the condition where stools mixed with mucus, blood, a foul smell, and whitish froth are formed and are referred to as “Krimij Grahni”. The various herbal ingredients in the formulation pacify and harmonize vitiated doshas, correct disturbed dhatus, tone up Agni, normalize the functioning of the digestive system, and counteract parasite infection.
